I have been running regularly now for about 5 months. Thanks to the Garmin Forerunner watch that I am using, I am improving steadily now.
I also bought some good running shoes last week from The Running Centre (west perth) and they certainly helped with making me run faster.
It's amazing. 5 months ago when I first started running, I had to stop 7 times for my first 2 km run. Yesterday, I did my personal best 5 km run for 27:50 (that's about 5:30 pacing). Amazing! Last week, I did 10 km for 59:48 (5 km split time was 29:23). In one week, I shaved off almost 2 mins off my 5 km personal best time!
One of the things I love about running is that it is an objective activity and sport. If you have clocked your hours, your time will show it. The clarity of the result cuts through the noise.
My immediate mid-term goal is to run the Perth's city-to-surf and record a good time for 12 km. What's a good time? My only 12 km time now is about 1 hour and 21 mins. I will aim to do about 1 hour and 5 mins or less for my 12 km city-to-surf in August. Let's see...
